Sullivan County's Catskill
Mountains have been a tourist resort area since the late 1800s due to
their proximity to the metropolitan New York area. Sullivan County has
more than 1,000 square miles of scenic splendor with fresh clean air,
wide open spaces, hundreds of lakes, streams and majestic mountains
overlooking lush green valleys. Nestled between the Hudson and Delaware
River Valleys, the rolling hills are home to the legend of Rip Van
Winkle and provide a launching pad for many entertainers in the area's
hundreds of hotels and resorts. While Rip Van Winkle may be hard to
find, the area has evolved into a year-round resort destination for
mountain travelers. Famous for its abundant trout streams, downhill and
cross country skiing, hiking, canoeing, camping and championship golf
courses, the Catskills may have exactly what you are looking for.
